Leadership Coaching for Early Childhood Leaders

You Built Something That Matters.
So Why Does It Feel Like This?

You are carrying the centre, the staff, the families, the compliance load, and your own standards — all at once. You are also doing this while raising a family, running a business, and being everything to everyone around you. You got into this because you believed in what early education could do for children. This work makes sure it does not cost you everything in return.

Why This Is Different

Most coaching for women in leadership is built around corporate frameworks that have never seen the inside of a childcare centre at 7am with two staff calling in sick, a compliance visit booked, and a room that needs covering. This is not that. Matilda Wand is a professional firefighter with Fire and Rescue NSW, a mother of two young children, and the founder of a coaching practice she leads alongside a team of eight specialised coaches. She has competed at World Cup level in sport and coached women leaders across Australia. She is not speaking from theory. She is living exactly what you are navigating — and she knows how to make it sustainable.

The centre is running.
You are the one who is not.

You got into this because you care about children and what early education does for them. That has not changed. What has changed is everything around it.

The compliance burden has compounded year on year. The workforce crisis has landed squarely on your desk. The emotional labour of holding your team together — managing their stress, covering their gaps, absorbing their frustrations — sits on top of actually running a business. And you are carrying all of it while also being a mother, a partner, and every other role that does not get to clock off at five.

You are the one people come to. Which means there is rarely anyone for you to go to. So you carry it. You push through. And you tell yourself this is just what leadership looks like when you care this much.

  • You are exhausted in a way that sleep does not fix — because the mental load does not stop when the day does.

  • You are second-guessing decisions you would have made without hesitation three years ago — and that hesitation is costing you.

  • You feel guilty about almost everything — the staff you cannot pay enough, the families you cannot always reassure, and the mother and partner you are not quite managing to be at home.

  • You are absorbing everyone else's emotional load with no real system for processing your own — and it is starting to show.

  • You have started to question whether all of this is still worth it — and that question frightens you more than any compliance notice.

“You did not get here by accident. But the way you are currently carrying this is not sustainable — and some part of you already knows that.”

This is not a workload problem that a better spreadsheet will fix. It is not a staffing problem that one good hire will solve. Those things are real — but they are not the root of what you are feeling.

What is actually happening is this: you have spent years being the steady one. The one who holds it together at work and at home simultaneously. And in doing that, you have built a version of leadership — and a version of yourself — that has no room for your own needs inside it.

The guilt, the second-guessing, the exhaustion that does not lift — these are not signs you are not good enough. They are signs that the way you are operating is costing more than it should.

The work here is not about becoming a different kind of leader or a different kind of mother. It is about removing what is draining you from the inside — so that both of those things can feel like what you intended them to be.

Lead the centre.
Without losing yourself in it.

This work is about changing how you carry the role internally — not the external demands of it. The compliance is real. The workforce pressure is real. The emotional weight of a sector that genuinely matters is real. The school pickup and the dinner and the homework after a full day — that is real too. None of it disappears.

What changes is how those things land inside you. How you process pressure without absorbing it. How you make decisions from a clear place instead of an exhausted one. How you come home to your family as someone who is actually present — not just physically there.

The result is a version of you that leads from a full place — not from the bottom of a tank that never quite refills.

How It Works

01
Find the Root

We identify exactly what is draining you — not just the external pressures, but the specific internal patterns that are amplifying them.

02
Remove the Weight

We remove the guilt, the second-guessing, and the patterns of absorbing others' pressure that have built up over years of leading in a caring role.

03
Rebuild the Base

We rebuild how you engage with your own authority — so decisions come from clarity, not from exhaustion or the need to keep everyone comfortable.

04
Apply It Now

Everything is practical and immediate. Your centre, your team, your family, your specific pressures — not generic theory.

What Actually Changes

  • The guilt that follows you home every night loses its grip — because you have a different relationship with what you can and cannot control.

  • You stop absorbing your team's emotional load as your own — and you become more useful to them because of it, not less.

  • Decisions come from a clear place — not a depleted one. The second-guessing quiets down.

  • You go home and you are actually there — present with your children and your family, not still running the day in your head.

  • The work you do for children and families feels like what it was always meant to feel like — not like something slowly hollowing you out.

“The sector needs leaders who are still standing. This is how you stay standing — without it costing everything else.”

Matilda Wand

She is living
what you are navigating.

Matilda is a mother of two young children, a professional firefighter, the founder of Freedom is Within, and the leader of a team of eight coaches. She is not telling you how to balance it from the outside. She is doing it herself — and she has built the internal systems that make it possible without running on empty.

As a professional firefighter with Fire and Rescue NSW, she operates in high-pressure, high-consequence environments where composure is not optional. As a World Cup-level athlete, she trained in systems where mental discipline under sustained pressure is the baseline.

As a coach, she works with women who lead in caring, high-pressure roles — who are deeply capable, and who have been giving so much for so long that their own foundation has started to erode without them fully realising it.

What Clients Say

“The impact on my emotional wellbeing after just four sessions with Matilda was quite profound. It felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders — and for the first time in three years, I experienced eight uninterrupted hours of sleep. It was not just about addressing the surface-level issues. It was about diving deep and rebuilding my emotional resilience.

Carmel Ellis
Managing Director — Indooroopilly Montessori Children's House

“I had two babies under two and life felt like it was spinning on its head. Since doing my programme, the way I feel about myself is hugely different. It is the first time in my life I have truly looked within for acknowledgment and assurance — all the things I thought I had to look outside for. The person I was looking for the most was myself. I have found that person.

Candice Donnelly
Mother & Educator — Retraining in Social Science

This is not for someone who wants a resilience workshop or a general wellbeing programme. You have done those. They help for a week and then the same weight comes back.

This is for a director, owner, or CEO who has built something real — who is raising a family and running a team and still performing — but who knows that what she is carrying internally is not matched by what anyone around her sees.

You do not need to start over. You need the internal load to change. One conversation will tell you whether this is the right fit.

You have given enough
to everyone else.
This one is for you.

One conversation. No obligation. Just clarity on what needs to change.
