Life Coach Newcastle

Create clarity. Make the change. Build a life that actually feels like yours.

If you are looking for a life coach in Newcastle, chances are there is already something you know needs to change. Maybe you feel stuck. Maybe life looks good from the outside and still does not feel right. Or maybe you know exactly what you want and keep getting in your own way when it comes to creating it.

I am Matilda Wand, founder of Freedom is Within. I am Newcastle born and bred, and while I now coach clients online right across Australia, Newcastle and the Hunter will always be home.

My approach is not about telling you how to live your life. It is about helping you understand what is keeping you where you are, getting clear on where you actually want to go, and making the decisions that move you towards it.

Two people in a one on one life coaching conversation

Newcastle born and bred

Newcastle is not a location I have added to a web page because someone told me it would help with Google. I was born and raised here, and it is where I have built my life, my career, my businesses and my family.

I grew up here. Freedom is Within respectfully operates on Awabakal and Worimi land, and Newcastle is still home for me. I know the shift work, the commute up and down the M1, the tradie and mining rosters, the small business owners in Hamilton and Charlestown, the parents juggling school runs at Merewether and Lambton, and the quiet pressure that comes with all of it.

Alongside coaching I have served as a firefighter for more than a decade, competed as a World Cup athlete, and written and spoken about behaviour and self leadership. That mix means I am not surprised by pressure, and I do not need it explained to me.

You are welcome to read what people have said about working with me on the Freedom is Within testimonials page.

What life coaching actually is

Coaching is a structured, forward looking conversation about your life and what you want from it. We look at where you are now, what you want instead, what is getting in the way, and the practical steps that close the gap. Then we keep going until the change holds.

It is not therapy and it is not medical or psychological treatment. I do not diagnose or treat anything. If something you are carrying needs clinical support, I will say so and encourage you to speak with your GP or a registered health professional. Plenty of people do both, and that works well.

How I approach it

  • Direct and honest, with no judgement about what you bring into the room.
  • Focused on behaviour and patterns, not just goal lists, because the pattern is usually what repeats.
  • Practical between sessions, so you leave with something to actually do.
  • Confidential, and paced to what you can carry.

Curious about the detail? The Freedom is Within FAQ answers the common questions about sessions, length and cost.

Common reasons people look for a life coach in Newcastle

Feeling stuck

Life looks fine on paper, but something is flat or off, and you cannot name it yet.

Clarity and direction

You have options in front of you and no confidence about which one is actually yours.

Changing direction

A career move, a business decision, a relocation, or a new chapter after something ended.

Confidence and mindset

You perform well and still second guess yourself, or shrink in the rooms that matter.

Goals and habits

You know what you want to do. Doing it consistently is the part that keeps slipping.

Work, life and relationships

Boundaries, communication, and the balance between work and the people you come home to.

Life coaching is not about handing you the answers

I do not believe a coach's job is to tell you what to do with your life. You are the one who has to live with the decision. My job is to ask better questions, challenge the thinking that is keeping you stuck, help you see what you may not be seeing yourself, and hold you accountable to the changes you decide you want to make.

Sometimes that means looking at your goals. Sometimes it means looking at your beliefs, your communication, your boundaries, your habits, your relationships or the expectations you have placed on yourself. And sometimes it is simply having someone outside your everyday world who will challenge you without an agenda in the outcome.

People come to coaching for all sorts of reasons. You might be:

  • Feeling stuck or directionless
  • Considering a career or life change
  • Wrestling with confidence or self belief
  • Wanting better habits and real accountability
  • Trying to understand patterns that keep repeating
  • Successful on paper and unfulfilled personally
  • Working towards a goal and struggling to follow through
  • Going through a major transition
  • Wanting clarity about what comes next

You do not need to have everything figured out before you start. Quite often, figuring it out is the work.

Who coaching may suit

You do not have to be at rock bottom to work with a coach. Many of the people I work with are capable, driven people who are functioning perfectly well and simply know something could be better.

Coaching tends to work for people who are ready to look honestly at themselves and act on what they find. Most of the people I work with are professionals, business owners, leaders, shift workers and parents, from their late twenties through to their sixties.

It may suit you if you want to be challenged as well as supported, you can commit to a regular session, and you are willing to do something differently between sessions.

It is probably not the right fit if you are looking for clinical treatment, or if you want someone else to do the deciding for you.

What working together looks like

  1. A free intro call. Fifteen minutes, online. You tell me what is going on, I tell you honestly whether coaching is the right next step, and there is no pressure either way.
  2. An assessment session. A deeper conversation where we map what is actually happening, what you want instead, and what has been repeating.
  3. Regular coaching sessions. Held online by video, usually one on one, with practical work between sessions and clear things to look at as you go.
  4. Review as you go. We check what is shifting and adjust. When you have what you came for, we say so.

Book yourself in for a complimentary call, where we will uncover what is going on for you, what the coaching process is, and the steps to take you forward.

Online coaching, local understanding

All coaching at Freedom is Within is delivered online by video call. For Newcastle and Hunter clients that means you can work with someone who understands the area, without losing an evening to travel and parking. Sessions fit around rosters, school pick ups and business hours, and you can take them from home, the office or wherever you get half an hour of quiet.

Clients further afield are equally welcome. Freedom is Within works with people right across Australia, from Sydney and Melbourne to regional towns, in the same online format.

If you would like a feel for how I think before you book anything, there are free resources here and episodes of the Freedom is Within podcast to listen to.

Questions people ask

Do I have to be in Newcastle to work with you?

No. Coaching is online, so Newcastle, the Hunter, anywhere in Australia, and Australians living overseas all work.

Are sessions ever in person?

Coaching is delivered online by video. That keeps sessions consistent and easy to fit into a working week.

Is coaching the same as counselling or therapy?

No. Coaching is forward focused and practical, and it is not medical or psychological treatment. If clinical support is what you need, I will tell you.

How long do people usually work with you?

It varies with what you are working on. We talk about it openly on the intro call rather than locking you into something before you understand it. More detail sits on the FAQ page.

You do not need the whole plan. You just need to decide what happens next.

If something is not working, waiting another six months rarely makes the answer clearer. Sometimes you need to stop going around the same thoughts in your own head and have a different conversation instead.
